Arlene Hittle is an Arizona journalist who writes romance. Nothing has been published yet, but she plans to change that by the time she’s 40. That means it’s time to get serious.
Road to publication
I've been a writer since second grade, when I filled a giant sketchbook with story after story — most of them about little girls who found puppies, because I wanted one. I didn't get that puppy — at least not until I was out on my own. I did, however, know early on that I wanted to entertain others with my stories.
Now that I'm pushing 40, it's time for me to get my rear in gear and get my novel published. This blog will detail my journey to do just that.

I have eight manuscripts in various stages — three complete. (I just finished the rough draft of another one this week.) I did not final in my first Romance Writers of America Golden Heart competition, but am already making plans to enter again this fall. Persistence pays off. Now I'm querying agents on the GH entry and writing a synopsis for the single-title contemporary so I can get it ready for contests. I still think it's pretty good, even if it is only in its second draft. That either means a) I haven't been away from it long enough to look at it objectively or b) it really is good. (I prefer Option B. Who wouldn't?) Why is it always easier to find mistakes and room for improvement in someone else's work than it is in our own?My Tweets

Wow! Arlene!!! I always wanted to be a writer too, but never as dedicated as you are. I get frustrated because I get some “awesome” idea for a story, start to write it, then get bogged down after a few pages. I never really learned to develop a story very well. When I was delivering the Daily Sun (before Composing) all sorts of ideas would pop into my head, but couldn’t really stop to write things down. When I was able to write it all went *POOF*!!!
By the way, you’re looking great!!!
